How to make Paper from Tetra-pak?

Materials Needed:

Procedures:

1. Tear the tetra-paks into tiny pieces, then soak them into a pail of hot water for about 30 minutes. Put a handful of the soaked paper into the blender and mix until mushed.

2. Pour the blended pulp into a measuring cup. Pour roughly 3 cubic centimetres of water into the pan. Place the screen into the pan and pour 1 cup of paper pulp onto the screen.

3. Spread the pulp evenly in the water with your fingers. It should feel kind of mushy. Lift the screen and let the water drain.

4. Lay the pulp-covered screen face down on a cloth or in between some newspapers. Lift the screen away, leaving the paper pulp on the cloth. Cover with another cloth and iron it, or use a rolling pin to flatten. Press out excess moisture. Let the pulp dry for at least 24 hours.

5. Once it is dry, it is ready for use.

Today, we went for a briefing at the Science Centre. There, the facilitators explained to us what the competition was
about and we decided on a date to meet up with the mentors to update them on our progress. After the briefing, we explored the science centre to pick up new ideas to improve on our project. We decided to continue with our idea and not to use the ideas that is available at the Science Centre. We have to prepare a presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint. We also have to create an exhibition decorating the 2 A2 boards provided for us.

HELLO!
Today, we are going to tell you about our project. The aim of our project is to
educate the school to be more environmentally-friendly. We will hold a campaign
to explain our project and to urge the school to help and also to be more
environmentally friendly. The main objective of our project is to recycle tetra-paks.
Everyday, tetra-paks are being thrown away. We feel that it is a waste. So we are
going to recycle it. There are only recycling bins in our school to recycle paper and
bottles, but there is none for recycling tetra-paks. Tetra-paks can be recycled. We
are going to set up recycling bins in our school canteen specially designed to
collect tetra-paks. Pupils will have to flatten the tetra-paks before putting them into
these bins. Every month, we will sell half of the collected tetra-paks to recycling
companies. The money collected will be given to the school's fund-raising
programmes. The other half of the tetra-paks won't go to waste either. We will
make recycled paper out of it. The recycled paper will be used to make bookmarks,
greeting cards and other stuffs. These will also be sold in school to the students
to raise money for the needy pupils. Other than these two, we will also be putting
up posters around the school to remind the school to be more environmentally
friendly. Stickers will also be made and sold to raise more money. Students can
paste the stickers in their books to act as a reminder to be more environmentally-
friendly. We hope these measures will help to raise money for the school as well as
to make the school aware of their needs to be more environmemtally friendly.
